Browns add Haden at No. 7

The Cleveland Browns stayed true to their board and selected cornerback Joe Haden with the No. 7 overall pick.

Haden was considered the top corner coming out of Florida but had seen his stock waiver in recent weeks.

Scouts were unimpressed by Haden’s workouts, in particular his slow time in the 40-yard dash.

Some speculated that Cleveland actually had Boise State’s Kyle Wilson at the top of their draft board at the cornerback position.

Cleveland’s defense should receive a huge boost in the secondary from a guy that can come in and start immediately.

McCoy won’t play in 2010

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren has made it clear that quarterback Colt McCoy will not be seeing the football field in 2010.

Holmgren picked up McCoy late in the third round of the NFL Draft, filling the need for a potential franchise quarterback down the road.

However, he wanted to caution all fans getting excited about seeing the young quarterback out on the field that it won’t be happening for some time.

Holmgren wants to give McCoy the chance to learn and grow from veteran Jake Delhomme and to also get stronger in the weight room.

Delhomme was promised the starting job when he signed with Cleveland, so Holmgren isn’t about to backpedal and take that away from the veteran.

Browns, Rams discuss top pick

The Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams have had discussions about a possible trade involving the No. 1 overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft.

The Rams have been back and forth on who to select with the first overall pick but now seem to have settled on Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford.

However, the Browns also seem very interested in selecting a quarterback in the first round and might want to move up to grab Bradford.

The only problem for the Browns is that they would have to sign over a number of their 2010 and even 2011 draft picks in order to move up just a few spots to get their quarterback.

St. Louis likes Bradford a lot, but they have so many needs that they could be better off trading the top pick to Cleveland and receiving several selections in return.

Browns acquire Brown from Eagles

The Cleveland Browns have acquired cornerback Sheldon Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in a five player trade.

The Browns also acquired linebacker Chris Gocong in exchange for linebacker Alex Hall and a fourth and fifth round draft pick.

Head coach Andy Reid said that Brown is a good player and tough guy that will help out the Browns.

Brown is coming up on the end of his current contract, but it is likely that the Browns will look to give him an extension.

It was a good deal for the Browns because they have so many draft selections stockpiled that it made it easier to make trades.

Rogers arrested for taking gun to airport

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was arrested for carrying a gun into an airport.

Rogers was stopped at a checkpoint after a loaded gun was discovered in his carry-on luggage.

He was arrested and being held in a Cleveland detention center. It was unclear if he had a permit for the weapon.

The defensive tackle has a history of criminal behavior and will most likely face discipline from the league.

It also won’t help his relationship with head coach Eric Mangini, who had issues with Rogers when he first took over the team.
