Browns Cut Ties With Stallworth
After being reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell following the conclusion of the Super Bowl, wide receiver Donte Stallworth is now in search for a new team.
The Cleveland Browns officially cut ties with Stallworth on Tuesday, following Stallworth’s year-long suspension from the NFL for killing a man while driving drunk.
After meeting with Stallworth on Friday, Goodell said that Stallworth was “in a better place than he was.”
Stallworth served 24 days of a 30-day jail sentence that was handed to him in mid-June, and Stallworth reached an undisclosed financial settlement with the victim’s family. Once the legal process had completed, Goodell quickly swooped in and suspended Stallworth for the 2009-10 season.
In only one season with the Browns, Stallworth caught only 17 receptions for 170 yards in 11 games, after signing a seven-year, $35 million contract in 2008.
