Cribbs attending OTA’s

Despite his contract dispute with the team, Cleveland Browns returner Joshua Cribbs is participating in OTA’s.

Cribbs wants a new contract, saying he has outperformed the first one that he signed with the team.

The Browns aren’t biting, remaining firm on the fact that Cribbs needs to play out the contract that he agreed to.

Cribbs’ agent said that his attendance at OTA’s is a good faith effort to show the team how committed he is to football and his teammates.

Mangini not making friends in Cleveland

New Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini is apparently following the ways of Bill Belichick and his other disciples by failing to make too many friends around the Lakefront.

The team is currently in a contract dispute with wide receiver and special teams ace Joshua Cribbs, who has outperformed his original deal and is looking to get paid.

However, Mangini and management aren’t budging on the Cribbs issue, and the electrifying kick and punt returner still have a few years left on his current contract.

Mangini has been widely criticized for his abrupt way of dealing with people, especially the team’s employees, upon his hiring by the Browns. He isn’t much of a people-person, which didn’t work out well for Belichick during his days in Cleveland, either.

He might want to think about changing his tune in a hurry if he wants to keep his job with the Browns for more than a couple of years.

Browns turning down offers for Quinn

The Cleveland Browns have been turning down trade offers for quarterback Brady Quinn left and right, and it looks like they are going to end up holding onto him.

Quinn is expected to be the team’s starter this year over Derek Anderson, who will be the backup but will likely still be given the chance to compete for the starting job.

Both offers for Quinn have been said to involve No. 1 draft picks. Quinn was drafted No. 23 overall by the Browns.

If the Browns plan on turning down such offers, it’s pretty clear that he isn’t going anywhere and the team truly believes he is going to be the team’s franchise quarterback.

The Browns have also not made any progress in their efforts to trade away wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

Edwards’ trade rumors not going away

The trade rumors surrounding Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards apparently aren’t going away despite the fact that the NFL Draft has already passed by.

Usually, trade rumors pick up steam right before the NFL Draft because team’s can trade their picks for that year for a player. However, it tends to die down after the draft, since the next one is a year away.

However, that hasn’t been the case with Edwards, who seems to be drawing interest from a number of NFL teams but has not endeared himself to the Browns organization.

The latest rumor has Edwards going to the New York Jets for running back Thomas Jones, which would give each team additional depth at those respective positions.

The Jets really need a big play wideout next to Jerricho Cotchery, but I’m not sure that the Browns should really be in the market for another veteran running back who has problems staying healthy.

Browns trade down, get more picks

The Cleveland Browns traded down a couple of times in the first round to acquire more draft picks, including a deal with the New York Jets for their No. 5 overall selection.

In doing so, the Browns passed up on a number of top players that could have really helped improve their team.

The Browns also did not trade away wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants, a move that had been rumored for weeks.

Edwards will remain in Cleveland despite the fact that many of the fans have turned against him.

They also did not trade either of their quarterbacks, so it looks like a battle for the starting job with ensue in training camp.
