Browns trade for Wallace

The Cleveland Browns have made another move, this time trading for Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Seneca Wallace.

In exchange for Wallace, the team sent the Seahawks an undisclosed 2011 draft pick.

Wallace was enticing to the Browns because of his ties to current president Mike Holmgren.

He also could be an interesting asset when the team goes to its Wildcat formation, something it had a lot of success using with Joshua Cribbs.

The acquisition of Wallace likely means the end of the road for either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson.

Browns sign Fujita

The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent veteran linebacker Scott Fujita to a contract. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Fujita played outside linebacker for the New Orleans Saints in their run to the Super Bowl, but will switch to the inside with the Browns.

The Browns said that they were thrilled to back able to sign Fujita so quickly, as he was one of the players they targeted at the start of free agency.

They consider him to be a smart, tough player, the kind they are looking to bring into the organization these days.

You can already tell that the Browns are working hard to change to the culture of the team and the organization after years of futility.

Cribbs finally gets deal from Browns

Cleveland Browns standout Joshua Cribbs has finally been rewarded for his play, receiving a three-year contract worth $18.5 million from the team.

Cribbs had initially been very vocal that he wanted a new contract from the Browns and felt like his play was unappreciated by the organization.

He relaxed his stance much of last season, saying that he was just was going to take care of business on the field and felt that everything else would take care of itself.

He did make it well known that he was hopeful about the future of the franchise and wanted to stay a Cleveland Brown despite the team’s struggles for more than the past decade.

Mike Holmgren said Cribbs request for another contract was unusual given he had three years remaining, but he felt like the star had a good point and deserved the money.

Browns release Fraley

The Cleveland Browns have released veteran offensive lineman Hank Fraley, much to his dismay.

The team elected to release the 10-year veteran before he was due a roster bonus in two weeks.

Fraley moved around from center to guard to even tight end to help fill in holes along the offensive line.

He said he was shocked by the news and wish he had been informed about the release a few weeks ago.

At 32, Fraley is still likely to draw interest from teams looking to squeeze another few good years out of him.

Browns Cut Ties With Stallworth

After being reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell following the conclusion of the Super Bowl, wide receiver Donte Stallworth is now in search for a new team.

The Cleveland Browns officially cut ties with Stallworth on Tuesday, following Stallworth’s year-long suspension from the NFL for killing a man while driving drunk.

After meeting with Stallworth on Friday, Goodell said that Stallworth was “in a better place than he was.”

Stallworth served 24 days of a 30-day jail sentence that was handed to him in mid-June, and Stallworth reached an undisclosed financial settlement with the victim’s family. Once the legal process had completed, Goodell quickly swooped in and suspended Stallworth for the 2009-10 season.

In only one season with the Browns, Stallworth caught only 17 receptions for 170 yards in 11 games, after signing a seven-year, $35 million contract in 2008.

Cribbs optimistic about returning to Browns

Cleveland Browns wide receiver/kick returner Joshua Cribbs said he likes his chances of returning to the team next season.

That’s a complete reversal from the comments Cribbs made right after the final game of the season.

At the time, Cribbs felt disrespected and unappreciated by the team and didn’t think he would be back.

New team president Mike Holmgren has reached out to Cribbs and let him know that he wants to get something done very soon.

The offensive star of the team, Cribbs has made it known that he loves Cleveland and wants to stay.

Browns hire Heckert as GM

The Cleveland Browns have hired Tom Heckert as their new general manager, luring him away from Philadelphia.

Heckert had been with the Eagles since 2001 and was a big part of their dominance of the NFC over the past decade.

Mike Holmgren said that Heckert will have final say of the 53-man roster, with some input from him.

Heckert will have his work cut out for him in Cleveland, where the Browns haven’t seen the playoffs very much of late.

He will have the benefit of a lot of draft picks this year to increase the young talent on the roster.

Mangini to return at Browns coach

Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini will return next season after a second half push by the team.

A new coach is typically brought in when a general manager is hired, especially after a losing season.

However, Mike Holmgren wants to give Mangini another year after watching the Browns fight so hard down the stretch.

Holmgren said that he was very impressed with Mangini’s philosophies and his feelings toward the players when they sat down to talk.

Many of the players voiced their support of Mangini by the end of the year, which was a complete 180 from their feelings at the start of it.

Cribbs to leave Browns

The agent for Cleveland Browns special teams star Joshua Cribbs said he has likely played his last game for the team.

Cribbs has been trying to get the Browns to give him a new contract over the past year or so to no avail.

He was apparently so insulted by the team’s latest contract offer that he decided to clean out his locker.

The latest proposal would have paid Cribbs just $1.4 million per year, which is way less than he would get on the open market.

Cribbs said he is so hurt because Cleveland is the only place he wants to play, but that they are forcing him to go elsewhere.

Browns beat Jaguars, 23-17

The Cleveland Browns continued their second half surge with a 23-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was another big day for running back Jerome Harrison, who finished with 127 yards and a touchdown.

If nothing else, the Browns may have found their running back for the forseeable future this season.

They have not, however, found their quarterback of the future.

It was another very ugly day from quarterback Derek Anderson, who has probably punched his ticket out of town.

He finished the day with just 86 yards passing and an interception. What way to cap off the season!
